Welcome, I’m Heidi. Thank you for taking time to visit my blog.
As a woman of color who has faced sexual abuse, eating disorders, been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, PTSD, anxiety, and being a suicide survivor, I am well aware of the challenges mental illnesses present when trying to maneuver throughout the world as we know it. The social and cultural stigmas I have and still do experience, constantly remind me how much work still needs to be done in order to improve the negative perceptions people have towards mental illnesses, other health-related matters, or lifestyles. My personal experiences led me to develop this blog.
I hope you enjoy my posts and we can learn from one another. I truly believe the healing process is a lifelong journey. Please join me on this journey of healing. Mine is just beginning.
I am a mental health advocate, author, mother, daughter, sister, and wife. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and pursuing my Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology. I reluctantly made the transition from working 16 years in corporate America to working in the field of mental health. My fears held me back from pursuing my passion and life purpose until I finally decided to take control of my mental illnesses and life.
Against all odds, I have and will continue to face my fears in an effort to help others face theirs. I choose to no longer live in the past, but instead accept all that I am, all I am not, my challenges, strengths, and weaknesses. My experiences, positive or negative have only empowered me to be who I am today. I am thankful for my son. If not for him, I would not be here today.
